"The speechless Selknham"
These are digital paintings used to make a video clip about the genocide of the Selk'nham people in Argentina. The questioning of the relationship we have with our fellow human beings. The Belgian band Bertier proposed me to create a video clip on their sensitive lyrics and their sweet melody. They came as a real synchronicity to my artistic work, right in the middle of COVID. the song and the video naturally form a whole, they respond to each other.
It was easy and natural to express my sorrow to see our world sick and in danger by sometimes alchemizing graphite on paper, sometimes digital painting and sometimes small videos.
For "
Intimacy1905 " and "
Child of the trees" and «
Love au 17ème ciel » I wanted the viewer to be like a voyeur or thief for a moment "pause" with the Selk'nham people, a naïve and poetic ode to their mimetic relationship with nature, as well as the intimacy of our universal childhoods.
In "
The speechless Selknham", the cast shadows transport us into a theatrical dimension taken from Murnau's expressionist cinema, an almost grotesque scene, so fragile in their traditional costumes in the face of the European threat. Fragile and beautiful twigs, the "people twig" as I call them.
