This design canvas largely considers the impact of global migration streams on current social, political and cultural intersections representing the bicultural New Zealand governance system with its historical foundations in English sovereignty and colonisation.
Influenced by the original bronze sculpture of Queen Victoria by Edward Drury 1905, as a photo image, the work is revisited in digital media as a review of the Queen of the Dominions over New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, England and India and situated visual markers of migrant family and inter-generational histories. The original textile design created by the artist as a wearable art form is based on Pacific designs made in collaboration with migrant youth.
