The presented shot for the prize is Pareidolia#01, fineart print on alluminium and plexiglass, (70x100)cm, 2020.
That shot is part of the project Electric sheep (Pareidolia), a series of digital Photographies generated by a GAN net, 2020.
In machine learning processes called Deep learning, trainers transfer large amounts of data to the machine which will learn to process them and generate new information from them. After the enthusiastic beginnings, it was clear that these processes are not exempt from the Biases of those who implement them. A famous example is the facial recognition of google “Photos” which for a design bug led to tag a couple of people of color as “gorilla”.
In the last years of research on internet phenomena and the not well regulated management of big data, the artist has convinced herself that irrational, magic and eroticism impregnate viral contents. Hence Electric sheep was born, a project that uses a neural network to generate images, pareidolias, contemporary spectra of fallibility, in practice asking the machine to learn to make mistakes in a human way.
