Created during a five week residency at the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity, Alberta, Canada (August/September 2023).
Each print is comprised of four or five layers: terrain/topography; vegetation; fauna; human culture; tea culture; and each print represents/pays homage to one national culture involved in the propagation of tea culture in Canada.
Three prints (UK, India and Switzerland) include site specific elements of a large (14 metre) wall drawing, of the Rockies « Drawing the Mountains » created with silver tape on the wall at Banff Art Centre. The line passes through these three prints as a compositional element. Each print also has a dedicated soundtrack, accessed through a QR code adjacent to the image. The Image for China includes a depiction of the Chinese God of Agriculture, who introduced tea into China, ploughing the fields with a peacock, an invasive Chinese plant that arrived in Canada via tea imports, a dragon fruit and a typical modern Chinese teapot.
The works were first exhibited at the Banff Centre 0n the 13 September 2023 and subsequently at the Thomson Gallery, Zug, CH (October 2023) and Andakulova Gallery, Dubai (November 2023).
