Kintsugi addresses the theme of emotional manipulation endured by children.
The young girl in the room symbolizes innocence, purity, but also the vulnerability of young hearts. The shattered objects and neatly displayed shards unveil the experiences of the soul: those still to come on the floor and those already "twisted" and collected in the small vase atop a resilient, bare tree of life, with the emerging branches symbolizing hope and growth. Even in the most challenging situations, children can find the strength to keep growing and thriving. In fact, the vase itself represents the girl's soul, resilient despite its wounds.
The mirror reflecting a distorted image mirrors the confusion that often surrounds children's identity when emotionally manipulated. They see a distorted image of themselves, distant from their true essence. Just as the peeling wall portrays the family environment marked by imperfections and scars.
The intention of the artwork is to prompt reflection on how the surrounding environment can deeply influence a child's psyche, but it also encourages the observer to find beauty and strength in their uniqueness and in the healing of emotional wounds. The term "Kintsugi" is, in fact, a message of hope and resilience, underscoring that, despite adversities and manipulations, it is still possible to find beauty in one's own fragility and in the strength of their inner child.
