My creation I Need to Breathe/ زه تنفس ته اړتیا لرم is a tribute to Afghan and Iranian women. August 16, 2021: Power falls back into the hands of the Taliban in Kabul. Of the 40 million people in Afghanistan, 19 million are women. And for them, the impact is terrible. Presently, in Iran people fight for the democracy and women's rights.
Made in August 2021, my artwork is a tribute to all the brave who fight for the well-being of their people: Mahbooba Seraj, women's rights activist.
Chékéba Hachemi, ex diplomat and founder of Afghanistan Libre which allowed the education of 300,000 girls, including 8,000 baccalaureate graduates and 3,000 girls computer specialists in the Afghan countryside.
Negin Khpolwak and Zarifa Adiba, conductors, Zohra Orchestra, Afghanistan's first all-female orchestra founded in 2014 at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM). Zohra, a musical ensemble of 35 afghan women, performed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in 2017.
Dr Ahmad Naser Sarmast who founded in 2010 the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) in Kabul and received in 2018 the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm, Sweden.
Ustad Farida Mahwash, the "voice of Afghanistan,". In my little Augmented Reality film incorporated into my artwork, you can hear a raga that she performs in an excerpt from the play De Le Na Sukte (A Heart not Burned), from the album Traditional Ghazals afghans (Secular and Sacred Love Poems). © Courtesy of Label: Harmonia Mundi. Accompanying Mahwash's raga, the short film integrated into my artwork in augmented reality also highlights the words of the Afghan poet, journalist and musician, Dr. Sameh Samay Hamed. Titled Dokhtar Astam دختر استم / I Am a Girl, the poem has been performed in celebration of International Girl Child Day 2016 in Afghanistan. It recognized strong women overcoming obstacles in Afghanistan and around the world. This event was supported by Save The Children & Open Society Afghanistan and the Afghanistan National Institute of Music.
Dr. Sameh Samay Hamed has published 32 books and written more than 100 songs for Afghan singers across the world. He has received 3 International Awards: International Free Press Award 2003, USA, Kurt Tocholsky literature prize 2010, Sweden, and World Empowered Poet Award 2014, Canada.
