With this video in mind, I reflect on an on-site research project I did at Andrea Zittel’s highly regarded Wonder Valley Experimental Living Cabins to contemplate if the appearing and the being of the thing, are in fact, one and the same. The remote cabin structure was situated in the middle of the Mojave Desert in Wonder Valley, California. This place provided me with the opportunity to challenge my assumptions about needs, values, and social norms because the cabin itself, had no running water, showers, and electricity. The Ecological became a very real and present thing upon arrival and throughout the duration of my stay.
