What is the
connection between same but different people? Who am I? What my identity is?
This is a collective
self-portrait and social investigation of identity.
It is a try to find
out if unknown person would join a project by knowing only authors name and
surname. It shows that sameness, typical identity data can be start for a
research. Project connects all of the women who joined a survey.
Research of identity
began with fragility of identity data. 18 persons were found, 13 of them were
not possible to reach, interaction was made with 4 people but only one of them
joined till the end of the project.
In video, two girls creating self-introduction. They are saying same sentence: "My name is Ieva Butkute." Both of them are looking at the camera for more than one minute staying silently. It is a silent self-presentation and collective portrait. Background is created white so if reflects white cube space which shows the importance of person and symmetry of two people with same identity data. This kind of performance creates deeper experience and helps to substitute inception of time.
Project is planned to be continued in time - same people will take another minute in silence in front of camera after 10, 20, 30 years.
