« The discovery of the unknown » unfolds like an episode of Fantasy Island : it begins with a lively Polynesian song, the narrator talks about the island and its inhabitants. The video archive in this work comes from an american promotional campaign from 1938 to promote nudist camps in the US.
The narrator, Alan Caillou, lends his voice to a TV ad produced in 1972 by the Tahiti Tourist Development Board, meant for the american tourists. It’s when the archives intersect that the mechanisms of domination are brought to light, the white american becoming the target of the Western condescension.
