The artificial cloud with a big hole is made of polyurethane foam. It symbolizes the environment with tremendous human involvement. We create a new living environment, such as the sky in Manhattan, which is regular, mechanical, organized, and fragile. In addition, the polyurethane foam material is applied to those people’s clothes, which indicates the relationship between human beings and artificial production and the connection between regularity and irregularity. In contrast, the incompatible shapes of the pink object as the demonstration of non-regular, organic, and nature is planned to be forcibly put in the hole, repairing in vain. Ridiculousness and effortlessness out of hope are shown in this work.
Incompatibility between the hole and pink objects visualizes my situation as incompatible with the surroundings while living in Manhattan. At the same time, material difference refers to the self-contradiction of human behaviors. The cloud as an industrial product shows human construction, while the hole of the cloud infers underlying self-destruction. Attempting to repair the hole using pink objects is my effort in vain immigrating to an incompatible environment.
Narrative: “Strange holes always appear suddenly in clouds in our nation. We have tried so many ways to repair it. We carry her remains as guided by her voice. It is premature to realize the prophecy of underlying self-destruction.
Mother is forcibly put in the hole. We try to mend the hole as we try to mend relations with her. Our rigidity disturbs her heart’s rhythm, or we shouldn’t try to mend the unmendable.
We interact with this regular, mechanical, organized, and fragile environment, reshaping ourselves to fit in, as we’re never part of it. We are organic, and so is her. She is incompatible, and so are we.”
