The name of this program derives from the famous wedding march taken by Felix Mendelssohn. When this piece of music performed with the organ is heard in church at a wedding, each of us remains touched at that moment. While the music is playing, a couple is moving towards the altar or in a wedding hall, giving us beautiful and happy sensations.
My partner is an artist and he is also a pianist and organist. Once he played for me a part of Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" while we were in a church in Milan with a pipe organ, and the sound expanded in the church, creating in me many images in my mind: this music will appear in our union scene in the future.
But in everyday life, same-sex marriage is not as perfect as I thought. Italy approved the law on same-sex marriage in 2016, but only a small number of homosexuals choose to marry their partner. Other homosexual couples prefer to stay together without an agreement (marriage is not an important choice for Italian homosexuals). This phenomenon does not only occur in Italian homosexuals, but also among many heterosexuals who have had a partner for a long time, and already have children. For me who come from Asia, it is difficult to understand this type of marital status in Italy. In China, the average age of marriage is between 25 and 28 years: many young people choose their life partners by creating a union at this age. Therefore, couples with different cultural backgrounds have different research phases towards the future and marriage.
There are many partnerships in homosexual identity, which are mainly divided into: closed relationship and open relationship. The closed relationship refers to a couple who choose to have only two people in their respective emotional and physical worlds, with a single type of collaboration. The open relationship refers to the relationship between two or more people in a homosexual relationship, but the two or more bodies belong to more people. In terms of sex, they maintain an open attitude and accept each other: this type of behavior also leads to a lower incidence of homosexual marriage.
The males of the homosexual community, in addition to the emotional relationship, also seek satisfaction in the sexual field. Scientists have shown that sexual desire is a human instinct for the reproduction of beings and the resolution of their own needs. For most animals, sexual desire only exists in a seasonal way (in spring or summer). Only human sexual desire exists more broadly, and is the most prosperous species in existence. Males have more sexual needs than females because of their physiological structural characteristics and tend to satisfy their instinctive desires through sexual behavior.
Driven by such male physiological structures and instincts, sexual relations are more open among male homosexuals than female homosexuals. Homosexual relationships and marriage still seem to be a little small right now.
My project is presented in an artistic image with two elements: a video (a vague homosexual film) and a beautiful, sweet, moving "wedding march" appear. The combination of the two forms has a strong contrast: on the one hand, it expresses the sexual needs in the homosexual relationship and on the other a need for romantic poetry that must never be lacking in a relationship.
For me who come from Asia, impatient to have a stable emotional relationship, I dream of being able to enter a wedding hall in the future, listening for that day to the "Wedding March" that leads to all emotions. The comparison and the difference between Asian homosexual culture and European homosexual culture has always been the main line of my artistic creation: in this process I discovered that in two regions with different cultural backgrounds, there are different paths and directions for homosexual relations .
