The art installation 'Left luggage' came after a confrontational visit by Willy Baeyens to the 'Kazerne Dossin' museum in Mechelen. The work has around 130 old travel bags, apparently carelessly left behind. These suitcases show portraits (oil on canvas) of children whose young life was abruptly interrupted by the horror of the Holocaust. Most of the children died, some survived, some could escape the horror and still had hope for a future. A walk along and between the suitcases makes the pain, fear and sorrow almost palpable. Is this fear and pain and sadness in the world around us over….
This documentary shows the creation of "Left Luggage".
