La
Soupirante
The
woman is half naked, she goes down the stairs
-What
are we celebrating in Paris?
She
laughs with sarcasm.
The
man stands downstairs in the hall in a suit.
He
smokes,
he
stares at her with a cold look.
-I
am not afraid of the common place.. and I am almost ready.
By
the way, what
do you think of my toilet?
Am
I a good distraction?
oh,
would you like to see me dance, perhaps?
The
man invites her to follow him to the ballroom.
He
turns to her, seems to hesitate then he says
-to
dance... I suppose you’ll have to be convinced?
His
condescending tone, frankly.
La
Soupirante is a play that refers to the famous attraction of the Bal
des Folles in the 19th century, where, for one evening, people from
high society came to meet at a ball, who stood at the hospice of the
Salpêtrière, women suffering from dementia, abandoned or simply
fragile.
Prevention,
confinement, waiting.
