The warning sound of chainsaws accompanies moments of Nadine Bariteau’s performance in which gestures of pulling and dragging attempt to dislodge her body from the surrounding landscape. She strains for a foothold, slides in place, or hangs at a sharp angle, her body one half of a drawing stretched across the reflective water. After suffering a car accident in which the artist sees her mother die, this four seasons piece question the instinctive act of performing to overcome grief and loss.
