The project started in February 2023 and is based on the collection of images produced with generative AI. The project represents excerpts of a possible world, in a future and contemporary dimension at the same time. Someone today has taken action and chosen to safeguard planet Earth by burying fossil fuels for good and allowing trees to become roads.
This Today is the future, where oil is remembered with gratitude for its services and where saints are those who believed it necessary and possible to celebrate its mortal remains by making the world a garden.
The main chapters of this vision are seven:
Golden Halo: the portraits of the saints and holy men. Their attributes are secular and made of flowers and fruit.
The garden: glimpses of the garden housing the seeds of the revolution
Fossil fuels: celebration and rituals in memory of fossil fuels
Borders: in memory of borders, also now extinct
Paper and objects: the sacred texts are botanical manuals, herbals and plans for sustainable cities, the sacred objects are tools for cultivation and precious artifacts made from reused materials
Desert: the search is not over, we try to recover where we went wrong and make devastated and parched places hospitable
Rain: celebration of water

In a year and a half I have explored the subject by declining it in the different chapters, I have explored the potential of artificial intelligence software, the technical and aesthetic changes due to new versions of the software are visible, the merits of this tool are visible, and the flaws are visible, which can be seen above all in the stereotypical nature of the images, which are the result of stochastic fishing operations in the basin of western visual culture from which they come.
Enough has been said, the project closes because I have consumed - extra fossil energy - to produce around 500 images that are a selection from thousands of images generated, the wish would be that every energy-intensive company should believe in, and be committed to, the concrete development and use of renewable energy sources.
