LIBOAT (LIBARCA )
BILLY AMMARE (Billy at the sea)
A Library like Boat
The project has been focusing on this new object named Libarca (may be translated as “Liboat”). The word has been created by the union of two words: library and boat and is based on the fusion of two usual language codes that launch a brand new path of transformation and of personal desire. The project is made of an ordinary library that – in the studio of the artist – has often changed its function becoming through amazing vicissitudes waterproof – which is actually the most essential quality of a boat. Before putting the boat into deep sea water, the artist – curated by Elisa Raviola – arranged a solo show with site-specific performance for those who live in close contact with the Darsena of Milan. Billy was tested and steered for the first time by the artist and in collaboration with two young musicians: Gabriele Franzi and Francesco Pio Notarangelo.
Billy comes to life through the setup of the artist that ironically gets back to her childhood and plays like a little girl with things that she extrapolates from their own contexts – fulfilling like that some of her forgotten desires.
The project is also aspiring to realise one of the childhood dreams of the artist that consisted in crossing the quite short stretch (700 m) that separates two well-acquainted small towns – Albarella and Rosolina Mare in the province of Rovigo (Veneto).
A dangerous stretch, full of intense streams that from the lagoon overlooks the Adriatic Sea, to be crossed with the aid of a squared object that is not even certain to be able to make the journey. With the thoughtlessness of somebody aiming to realise her dream, the artist gave life to the film named „Billy Ammare” (translated as Billy at the sea).
