Architecture project "Future cities planning prize" 2012, Venice
The “BIVACCO” project was born around a reflection on the steps that the man-wanderer takes through the city. A journey of work, study, needs or other that leads him very often anonymously and in isolation to cross urban arteries.
“BIVACCO” primarily wants to convert public space into place. If the essence of building is dwelling, “BIVACCO” wants to become dwelling, even if it is temporary.
I think of this construction inserted in the heart of the city, along a pavement, a square, a widening, which can offer a pause, a possibility to communicate, to rest, but also shelter from the rain or the sun. It can become a waiting area for bus stops or a short shelter for long journeys to the remotest parts of the Earth.
Structure Urban BIVACCO
The structure is bi-modular and essentially square with an opening on two sides. Gathered but not separated from its context.
To this intentionally simple structure, special attention is given to coloring. Color is communication BIVACCO wants to express dynamism, joy and be immediately visible and identifiable. This is why I have chosen to match the three complementary colors for the
exterior walls, a light blue color for the interior and a grey color for the rest of the structure.
Economic sustainability
For the realization of this structure I thought of cardboard, a material that has all the characteristics for sustainable architecture (recycling-reusereduction).
In fact, architect Shigeru Ban has been using this material for many years to create buildings.
Cardboard can also be used with the clay paper technique (concrete-paper-water) recently experimented in Italy.
With the exception of the roof, which will be made waterproof using polyethylene, smooth cardboard will be used for all exterior walls and seating, while corrugated cardboard will be used for the interior walls, which will be treated and made fireproof and waterproof.
