tiny trump is a participatory art activism installation that transform people into activists, one tiny act of resistance at a time.
a "tiny trump" is a 7.5cm x 5cm cardboard protest sticker that is meant to be applied in the public realm. While the majority of Americans disapproved of the authoritarian and divisive tones emanating from the Trump White House, most of us felt powerless to stop it and remained largely inactive. tiny trump gave participants an accessible means to resist and make their voices heard in the public realm. Participants were able to regain a sense of power and control over a situation in which they feel as though they had neither.
Equal parts participatory artwork and social media project, participants used the hashtag #tinytrump to post and share their photos. From 2017 to 2020 over 7,500 people participated in the project distributing over 180,000 tiny trumps across all 50 states in the U.S. as well as in Australia, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, Romania, and the United Kingdom making it one of the largest participatory activist art projects in recent memory.
