La Cura is a series of targeted artistic interventions designed to document and address the wounds of Italian urban environments, focusing specifically on valuable architectural structures from the past. The project's objective is to transform urban art into a form of participatory activism that engages the community and highlights the hidden potential of abandonated locations. By consciously utilizing and showcasing areas of neglect and decay, the project aims to initiate virtuous recovery processes. Therefore, the artworks will be installed only in spaces where disuse and prolonged degradation are evident, not on derelict yet functional buildings. This approach not only brings art back to the center of community life but is also useful for attracting tourism and potential private investors interested in renovating these buildings.
1° WOUND HEALED
LOCATION: Barzanò (Lecco, IT)
The municipality of Barzanò has been dedicated years to returning this building (an elementary school from the fascist era) to the community and also for promoting artistic initiatives. The redevelopment project concluded in September 2023 but funding is still required. So, it's important for Barzanò bring back the debate on the importance of preserving this property. The building complex in question stands as a testament to the history of the country and for the entire nation. It embodies the characteristics of that period, contributing to the town's identity and memory. However, its prolonged disuse has transformed it into a living ghost: large yet invisible.
The Culture Commission and the municipal council use this artistic initiative in two different way: involve citizens in understanding the accomplishments of the Public Administration and for spreading free art throughout the town.
