In may 2019 I was strolling around in New York, inspired and overwhelmed by the heterogeneous opulence of the city and the people.
I got lost in Harlem while trying to capture the lively everyday life of the amazing people living there. Everyone had a story to tell and I could guess about their lives.
At this day my sister called me to tell me, that my mother in Germany would die soon due to a cancer diagnosis, that we received jut two weeks earlier.
We didn't expect the disease to spread so quickly. To be with her as soon as possible, I booked a flight later on this day.
I was very heartbroken that day, but I wanted to keep some memories of New York, unsure of when I would return.
I took the flight home in the evening, the filmrolls in my bag. I wanted to develop the pictures in the dark room as soon as possible to show them to my mom.
She knew how much this photo-trip meant for me and was happy for me.
When I landed in Germany, my mother had already passed away. I was devastated. These pictures will forever remind me of the last day in my mothers life.
