"Best Venice Map" is a public art intervention held on January 27, 2018 in front of the S. Lucia train station in Venice and along the Fondamenta di S. Simeon Piccolo and dei Tolentini. The action took place during "Altrolato - art and crafts for urban redevelopment". The event aimed to redevelop and repopulate the area of the Fondamenta di San Simeon Piccolo and that of the Tolentini, which after the construction of the Calatrava bridge had been cut off from the flows.
I designed and distributed 500 fake-maps of Venice to unsuspecting tourists, guarantees the best map: Grata rerum novitas! These maps, inspired by the errant ancient cartography, are designed to disorient those who use them, they are the answer to satellite omniscience of Google Maps and the predictability of standard routes. The purpose: to get lost and be willing to meet the unexpected, thus encouraging “urban draft” as a practice of random exploration of space.
