ZwischenRäumen, InBetween
The concept of time is human made to help us understand our world. In physics, time is one of the fundamental quantities that runs continuously, uninterruptedly, and linear in one direction. Time defines a before, an after and a now. It can be explored in the past but keeps the future open and uncertain. Time is a regulation that rules our daily life. It is used to quantify, measure, or compare the duration of events or the intervals between them, and even, sequence events.
In my video work ZwischeRäumen/InBetween it is my intention to break up and manipulate the concept of time. I am using technical means to capture moments which I multiply, rewind, and distort into new patterns. The mirrored walls, floor and ceiling of the video box break up the scenes and the viewers are transferred into a non-space scenario in which the connection between space, time and movement seems surreal.
Like all of my works, ZwischenRäumen/InBetween is a transformative installation that will be adjusted due to the dimensions of the exhibition space. It was exhibited as a hanging, slightly swinging, fully mirrored box with tension belts from the ceiling as well as a projection in a room covered with mirrored foil.
If this work will be chosen for the Arte Laguna Prize I would like to create a large scale installation of the video-box depending on the space.
