There are 50 stained fired glasses. The glasses stand by himself ( so you can take each plate out) With the help of an little medical book. I painted them with oxydes and fired them. It is a old techniek they used on de glasses in the churches . The plates are based on a book made by Otto Thomé in 1885.
After working as a mixed media sculptor for many years, in 2000, Ingrid Rosschaert became increasingly interested in glass and began seriously working with the material. For Ingrid, glass is inherently contradicting: it is fragile and strong, opaque and trasparent, “a stubborn material that you must learn to respect before it will accept you”. Her love for glass is unmistakeble, but her attitude towards her creation is, “my work determines my choice of materials.” Rosschaert’s sculptures and installations are dynamic, playful and filled with elements of humor, but always with an edge. She comments on het society and contradicting elements of the human being. Unexpected combinations of material and form tempt viewers to touch, play and hold her pieces. “The visual language is direct and emotive. The form is fed by the thought, but stays elegant and well spoken. Glass creates an extra dimension, a body, a shrine, a skin and light.” In a playful and ironic way, she uses waves of materials. She ignores the taboos. Her visual language is based on her philosophical impact. It is not only an ode to the body but it is also a mirror.Text written by art-criticus Hugo Brutin
