The creative imagination is a natural inhabitant between the spiritual and the material world. The visionary skills of imagination combine two balanced states: the intellective and the active. The contemplation of imaginable forms with no matter is necessary so that the soul-happening occurs.
Spiritual discipline and knowledge guarantee that the vision is due to the creative imagination.
WORKING IN THE CLOUDS
Is the title for the group of 13 marble sculptures. The idea is that the world is connected in this moment through the CLOUDS. Specially during the Pandemia we could see how we are connected to each other (“virtual clouds, cloud drive",etc..) The intention is to carve several lines that express the feeling of the movement of the clouds. The archaic mission is to transmit thoughts about water, air and its movements into the secret emptiness of space. The lines reconsider the complexity of the development of consciousness, so they are similar to the windings of brains and changing forms like clouds.
The sculptures maybe positioned so that the rising sun and the rising moon are going through the empty space, the holes carved in the stone to mark these important moments of the year. Specifically for the Mediterranean the EQUINOCCIS are essential moments because the rain is falling mainly in those dates. There are old celebrations for being thankful for the rain. The mediterranean areas are dry and the big rains come only twice a year, so it's very important also to storage the water.
In the abstract language of nature the S-curve going through all the pieces suggests a kind of peristaltic motion, a continuous undulation not only of life and death, day and night, but of one living form into another.
Cautiousness not to break the subtle inner balance
Attention to every living being, bees, stones, frogs, flowers..
Deference in our actions towards others
Patience for digging a hole, planting a tree bringing up a child, polishing a stone
Tranquility to live in the natural world
Beauty for creating, perceiving
Persistence in every day work
Loneliness permits to spend the energy on works and thoughts
The purpose of these sculptures is open doors into the collective consciousness . I make a reference to ancient times because it is important to me as an artist to function like a bridge between archaic era and ancient times and our actual time and the future. That’s why I choose stone to express my ideas and try to bring up some important issues for any time, for eternity. In fact, using our modern tools and machinery for stone is something very special that couldn’t be done in previous cultures and the outcome is indeed very different than using direct carving with gouge and hammer.
My first works related to clouds were large woodcuts. They were called WINTER CLOUDS. Later, a small alabaster sculpture called CUMULUS emerged. Over time I reflected on the importance of clouds, in our culture and in previous cultures.
It was interesting to find a reference to CLOUDS in the Bible, in the EXODUS passage, when Moses and Aaron lead the Israelites out of Egypt. It says: "And while Aaron was speaking to the whole community of the Israelites, they turned towards the desert and saw the glory of the Lord appearing in a cloud." (Exodus, 15,22-18,27)
And in The Sinai Alliance, it is said: "The Lord said to Moses: - I will come to look for you in the middle of a thick cloud, so that the people listen to me when I speak with you and believe in you forever " " The third day, when it cleared up a thick cloud appeared on top of the mountain, there were thunder and lightning and a loud horn sound was heard"... "the people kept away when Moses approached the thick cloud where the Lord was present."
Revelation of the Lord on the mountain (19-24)
"By day they followed a cloud and by night the fire"
Recently I have been able to access the best material and I feel very happy to work with it. I’m using the best white marble from queries from Macedonia, a material which has the same high quality as marble from Pietrasanta, but not so famous. Te stone distributer in Spain recommended to buy as much marble as I could because Chinese companies had bought the quarries and they are extracting the marble in a very high rate. This is the reason why this sculpture group started. Inner need and circumstances from reality. The CLOUD series is my farewell to stone carving, my ARS MAGNA.
There are 13 pieces that in total weighed approximately 10 tons.
Ars Magna also because I give each piece a meaning following the philosophy of Raimundo Lulio Mallorca s.XII, who was traveling the world and writing very important philosophy. He establishes in his Ars Combinatoria a circular system based on the following nine categories and their combinations:
I want to show the sculptures and the working space itself, the sculptures in the working playground of the sculptress, ( as you can see in the pictures) with everything that belongs to it and that I need to work, cages, palett wood, chairs, broken pieces, the broom, the sieve, the self-made working surfaces, the pinewood logs , and myself working, making a performance which of course is not a performance, but the reality of my everyday activity, showing my playground, where I'm using, holding, leaving my energy, my sanity, my health, my soul, my hearth, my life.
I want to present the work as it is in this moment or in the moment when the exhibition will take place. By doing this I can explain the values I'm representing. I can really make clear what I mean with my personal structure, what means patience.
