Women's. Traditional (Cultural codes hung up on a nail)

The work “Women’s. Traditional” is a part of the “Cultural codes hung up on a nail” series. It is a necklace, a typical attribute of women’s national costume in different cultures. Some beads of the necklace are replaced with fruits which are traditionally symbolized fertility and marriage. The felt hints at the archaic nature of this cultural code.

The artist explores stereotypical images of cultural codes that are widespread in society but have lost their relevance. To enhance this effect the author exploits the metaphor "of being hung up on a nail".

The artist reflects on when and why people become hostage to cultural codes that don’t allow them to go beyond stereotypes.
