Untitled _ 2018 _ Ceramic and knotted satin ribbons _ ca. 43 x 12 x 43 cm.
The object consist of ceramics and knotted satin ribbons. I use white clay, which I form by pressing my hands into it. This creates organic-looking forms. With many holes they remind of washed out shell parts or bones. After firing, these pieces are put together like a puzzle and then joined by knotted satin ribbons in a very time-consuming process until a stable structure grows together. This work consists of a particularly large number of separate parts.
Effect glaze gives the surface a pearlescent sheen. The satin ribbons take on a very unique shape due to the countless knots. As if in a cell division process, they overgrow the ceramic forms. Their luminous colorfulness contrasts with the smooth rather monochrome surfaces.
The work can be understood in a purely abstract way. But it is also reminiscent of marine life. In the extremely time-consuming production, one can see an analogy to the slow growth process of corals, for example. A subtle reminder of their endangerment.
