Viscera n°2 (2023) is a crochet installation of mine that explores themes of home/migration of a displaced person. I wanted to explore our connection with everything, the realization that we aren’t separated individuals (relationship : subject-object), but permeable and temporary forms evolving all together and interconnected, as a mass of life, each of us operating as the roots apparently different in aspect but belonging to the same tree, made of the same “stuff”. We are not IN a world, perceiving it, but we ARE the world perceiving and experiencing itself. On a personal note, in this process, I realized that I was subconsciously creating roots for myself, a strong need fueled by having been migrated and displaced. Where is home ? Home is everywhere, so I'm always searching for it.
It is created by hand from 100% cotton and wool and is currently being shown at What is Happening Here Gallery in Amsterdam, until December 2023. It stands 230 cm in height and 550 cm in diameter, and it occupies one of the rooms in the gallery.
The work embodies a reflection on one's roots and is a testament to the evolving nature of artistic discourse in our time.
