This work is part of a series of creations based on free and uncontrolled gestures. Placing myself as a simple witness in the formal transfer process of fine clay slabs placed in contact with an object, my intention is to extend the original spirit of Japanese Raku, such as unpredictability and surprise, in the very development of the form.
Through the envelope of the objects with clay and leaving the latter the right to interact freely, a sort of imprinting and an interpretation of the typical features of the object is created, with the consequent re-elaboration of its original signification by changing its value.
These experiences arise from the need to establish a connatural contact with the clay material, a relationship that I interpret and experience as a contemplative moment of the action and reaction processes of the clay during the creation of these works. From the absolute randomness of a simple gesture, something unique is created to seal that extra moment of my existence, giving meaning to one more practical act of my life.
The final process of my creations involves a treatment, in the coloring and firing phase, the latter also absolutely aleatory, typical of the Raku tradition. The colors of my works are in fact characterized by iridescent colors that I obtain with the reduction after firing, but also by opaque or transparent colors that I love to enhance with the craquelé effect - obtained by cooling the still hot work with air or water - and with the smoke, which I make interact with the glaze and the unglazed clay during the combustion of the still hot piece with paper, sawdust, leaves or pine needles collected in the surrounding nature.
