With the rapid acceleration of contemporary urbanization, living spaces have transformed into a landscape dominated by towering skyscrapers and intricate road networks. People have gradually distanced themselves from the once vital natural surroundings, taking refuge within the modern "urban forests" constructed from reinforced concrete. While life has become more efficient and convenient, it comes at the cost of worsening environmental pollution and ecological imbalance. Simultaneously, the virtual world created by internet technology is increasingly powerful, further occupying people's visual space and deepening the estrangement between humanity and nature. The perception of the surrounding environment has grown numb and indifferent, resulting in a gradual loss of sensitivity and understanding towards nature.
In this context, nature in the public living spaces of individuals has progressively degenerated into a form of decoration or backdrop, existing for appreciation, control, and continual extraction by human beings. The artwork Urban Frogman symbolizes urban structures through its geometric design, while the golden mirrored material signifies the power and wealth within the urban landscape. The openings on the metallic structure resemble windows on buildings, allowing spectators to glimpse a forest scene in the pouring rain "outside" through these "windows." Nevertheless, the audience and nature are separated by the metallic "architecture," and their interaction is limited to peering through the crevices of these structures. The distance between humanity and nature widens, leaving only a modern city filled with material desires as a prominent reality. This artwork serves as a visually compelling expression, rich with conflict and introspection.
