Living in Cyprus and being surrounded by the sea made a deep connection between me and islands' nature.
However, it also opened my eyes to the alerting pollution situation, since I was able to see with my own eyes what an enormous amount of garbage and waste floats in our seas and oceans, and how it affects the sea life. However, cleaning our beaches and collecting the garbage from the sea sores is not always enough. After investigating the effect pollution causes to the sea nature and its life I learned that there is a way to help the underwater sea life to restore its power and nature by providing corals and reefs with calcium carbonate. That was the moment I began my experiment. For this work, I used clay that has 25% of CaCO3 and MgCO3 and other minerals that help corals to grow. I made this art piece inspired by the beauty of the sea. I placed my works on the seashores next to my house and now closely watching and documenting the experiment, hoping that this specific clay body will give needed minerals for real corals to start growing new life with the help of my art. ( Ceramic coral artworks are removable from the sea and I also have more ceramic coral panels that are still not in the water).
