Every individual is complex and multifaceted. I am labeled by others subjectively while I deal with these labels subjectively and artistically. Then, I stand behind the fourth wall and observe myself. This is the reflection on the sociality of "Ego" and the way of self-exploration.
I asked 13 people of different identities described me with an object, including my colleagues, parents, netizens and boyfriend etc.. The labels they gave me serve as my persona. I hollowed out some monitors and replaced their screens for one-way mirrors, and then put these objects into them. The switch of each was connected to a speaker and light. Because of the theory of one-way mirror, audiences could see the images inside and hear the sounds after pressing the switch. When they turn on one or several monitors randomly or intentionally, different images and music, which stand a new persona of me, will be formed. In this work, there will be thousands of possibilities for my personality composition.
One of these monitors is always on, which is the side that I choose to show to others; one is difficult to find the switch, which is persona that difficult for myself to explore; one needs to keep pressing the switch, which is only for who was in close contact with me.
