L'orgueil du pêcheur,
Peacock feather fishing net
What do we catch in these nets?
The mending of fishing nets, which I often observed as a child, was practiced by men - which surprised me much, equating more to a female practice.
The shimmering colors of peacock feathers attract the conceited eye as the sea attracts sailors whom it does not always return to their homes. The net can be likened to a weapon, however, it is a passive weapon, which does not hurt. Thus it involves intellectual capture, by cunning rather than violence.
The delicacy of the feather used here induces the repair of "tears" - the name given to lesions in the net - in an endless cycle. By allowing these potential preys to pass through, the usefulness of this trap is nil.
