THE LOOP
The work is inspired by 'Satyr and Hermaphrodite' a Greek sculpture in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
It is a sculpture representing a scene of attempted sexual violence and scuffle, through which, I dynamically combined, materials and visual languages, in search of expressive power.
Beneath the veil of representation, the form of the inner engine is presented, consisting of measured reflection and planning, but also, of irrationality, improvisation and expression.
Under the veil of representation, the form of inner drive is presented, consisting of measured reflection and planning, but also, of irrationality, improvisation and expression.
Mimesis is understood as participation, listening and connection to creation. In this case I played both the nymph, with her expansive and liberating dynamic, and her desire for redemption, but also the rapist satyr, with his constricting movement and his animal violence.
Together, the two figures combine to create a circular shape that suggests a continuous cycle, a loop, the eternal clash that results from the apparent contradiction between the Apollonian and the Dionysian. A reality where opposites coexist and pulsate as if they were its heart.
