This is the core idea of the COPE Art Project: allowing one to perceive things through the eyes of others, with the hope of a better world.
The layout of this composition is based on the gaze of someone else, captured using eye-tracking technology. The image, chosen by the artist but viewed by an anonymous participant, recounts a real story. From the outset, the artist accepts being influenced by the narrative of a third party. In this piece titled The Bug, he uses light to reveal or conceal different parts of the story, thus influencing the viewer’s perception. The artwork takes on various forms depending on the ambient lighting, creating opposing narratives that evolve according to the perspective of the observer. As you contemplate the piece, you construct your own narrative of the story, shaped by your selective perception and personal experiences. Thus, each viewer creates a unique interpretation of the work, while observing the same story. What do you see now? What will the next person see? The story remains constant, yet it is perceived and told differently with each gaze.
