The art of traveling light
After a carefree childhood, I became a Jehovah’s witness at the age of twelve. The conversion of my parents marked the start of a completely different life. I turned into a strict believer but while reading books – my lifeline with ‘the other world’ – I realized I could no longer identify myself with the doctrine. I left my faith, faced exclusion and lost parents, siblings, friends and my job. I built a new life and after a successful career as a Gynecologist, embarked on a second journey as an artist.
Creating art made my burden lighter.
This over hundred-year-old suitcase, adorned with original destination stickers like Venice and Le Havre, is embellished with handmade embroidered textiles, lace, rust treated fabric and portraits of my mother. The drawers contain letters from my mother. You can also find photos of a Christmas celebration and my parents. Christmas was banned as was I.
This artwork serves as a testament to the power of creativity in healing and transformation. It stands as a reminder that even in the darkest moments we have the ability to forge our own path towards light and liberation.
The art of traveling light is not just a piece of art. It is a story of strength, resilience, and the unwavering power of the human spirit.
