Tectónico studies the tectonic plates’ movement by creating an immersive environment that reproduces the hypothetical experience of traveling through the geological layers of the planet. Projected patterns of volcanic rock float over a pool of white-hot fluid and are constantly disturbed by the vibrations on the ground, which are measured by a seismometer placed outside the installation. This piece was created in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of an earthquake that devastated Mexico City.
