It is in the 1909 exhibition at the Durand - Ruel Gallery that the title of Nymphé appears for the first time. Série de paysage d'eau .
The installation is inspired by Monet's paintings. It portrays a landscape of water and water lilies and consists of a work halfway between sculpture and painting, and a photograph I took around the Water Garden created by Monet 1893, in Giverny. The water garden that Monet portrays for the last twenty years of his life and that immediately becomes a symbol of paradise on earth with floating water lilies in candled colors and lush vegetation.
An "artificial" place, wisely built, initially created to be only admired and painted but which will end up existing in itself. It will become a work of environmental art, fundamental because it is pioneering. A place outside of space and time, where the public is invited to stop to meditate in front of the spectacles of nature.
Monet proposed to express a true aspect of reality and he turned to the sky, to the world. He knew that the diversity of nature has no measure. The wonderful fortune of his eye was able to capture the rapid and extreme changes. He knew how to perceive moments as moments of infinity in the universal coherence of things.
This work inspired by his research has allowed me to propose a Theme of great topicality on which I have been working for some time: the relationship between man and nature where nature is not only understood as a frame of human presence and the human being, symbol of the era "Anthropocene", is called upon to behave responsibly.
Synthèse visuelle. Nymphéas, paysage d'eau, le nuages is the chromatic interpretation of a view of the "Jardin d'eau". Painted at the edge of the Giverny pond, for several days, in the same metereoogical conditions, it can be considered a "Visual Synthesis of Landscape".
The decision to go beyond the constituent elements of the aquatic landscape to make a synthesis was made by cancelling the contours of the natural forms and any reference to the sign to give way to a very detailed chromatic research; faithful transcription of a view en plein air parcelled in 308 wooden tiles.
The framing has cut off the horizon line to concentrate only its liquid surface on which the water lilies float, almost rhythmic elements in the midst of a dreamlike world of reflections: willows, blue sky, clouds.
The reflections on the liquid surface have become a wide range of harmonious shades of grey-green-pink. The visual sensation of the movement of the clouds and the sky is suggested by the tesserae, of different thicknesses that in the relationship between form and colour should allow the eye to overcome the geometric reading as much as to stimulate a dynamic perception.
Light modulates the colour of the visual surface, transforming the static object on the wall into the articulation of a "moved" space. The work represents an attempt to go beyond the surface of the canvas in search of a new spatial dimension of the painting.
