STEEL BEAM deals with the roots of the city, the omnipresent tristesse shaped by the coal industry.
This artwork is part of the textile collection Donezk.
The starting point for the design was an interview with the artist Illya Gros, born in Donezk in Donbass, Eastern Ukraine. What constitutes home? Is it a place, a person, a smell, a dish, a memory or a feeling? Different types of bindings in the woven fabrics are used to create structures and a world of colour that reflect the emotions of the experience. Screen printing, weaving, dyeing and painting were media in my process to find answers.
