In 2021, I wrote a thesis on the history of the Haitian Revolution. I evoked many passages from the Black Code (1685), where the Church in the name of God officially affirms the inferiority and the duty of submission of black slaves, but I focused on the battles, the rebellions, the strength of the slaves that lead to liberation. Even today, on the African continent, the Catholic institution exerts enormous influence with groups of pastors and preachers who literally dumb down the population. During the writing, I realized to what extent African spirituality and ancient religions played a major role, a source of strength and courage that led to the liberation of the Haitians. Furthermore, this installation is the beginning of a critique of the instrumentalisation of faith rather than the act of faith in itself, it focuses on the vulnerability of a group under the domination and the power of politics.
