Scratching the surface
Feral cat skin cloak
Aboriginal Australians made and wore cloaks made
from possum skin. Luxurious and warm, they were also incised on the skin with
details of the owners life and connections. I made this feral cat skin cloak as
a kind of twisted, and fictionalised, comparative anthropological item. An item
which shows our psychic and as yet wholly unacknowledged role as the invading
species. Aggressively taking over as the “dominant” species, to the detriment
of all other human, plant and animal species indigenous to Australia.
