The RICE_Installation shows a combination with the real Rice in the shape of a big Circle.
RICE_CIRCLE_LIGHT, 2019
Decentered in the room, the rice circle lies on the ground and resembles a lunar disc. He exudes calm, testifying to the long, concentrated work of the artist. The rice reflects light as the moon does that of the sun. The circle is an archetype, the reference to the stars is its origin. He symbolizes perfection and refers to the secrets of life and death. Close by, the sleeping grains lie side by side until awakened by the elements of light, water and earth to new life.
This important crop from China is used as a staple food in subtropical and equatorial regions. (In Switzerland, rice has only been cultivated since 1997, in Italy since the 15th century.) Rice is an extremely valuable, life-giving cereal. In ancient China, there were even separate deities for the five types of grain (rice, millet, millet, wheat and beans). Thus, rice had a special significance in ancient Chinese culture. In many cultural traditions, rice stands for life, rebirth, becoming and passing away.
