The
Preludium is the title of my Mater Degree studies diploma (Academy of Special
Education in Warsaw). The Preludium is an installation created in 2019 and
presented at the diploma exhibition of the Academy of Special Education from
October 4 to November 17. This artistic piece was inspired by my pregnancy,
childbirth, and motherhood experience. Emotions of that particular time of my
life are constantly present for me. I decided to manifest them through art and
sculpture.
The piece is an installation based on a darkened
cube and a child sculpture suspended in space. The polyhedron is made of black
painted chipboard 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 m. The sculpture is made of polyester resin,
life size. In order to play on viewers’ visual senses I used the space of the
polyhedron by hanging the baby sculpture in the middle of dark space with only
small stream of light percolating from the top. Additionally, I’m playing on
viewers’ hearing sense by a recording of CTG [pulse and fetus heart cardiogram examination
in the mother's abdomen]. The recording comes from two black speakers hanging
at the back of the polyhedron, completely invisible. It is a personal auditory
experience for me, as it brings back vivid memory of the end of pregnancy and
approaching delivery
