Night Vision is an ode to the ferocious
fragility of nature. The ghostly linocut print at the heart of this work is
inspired by the image of a resident barred owl snapped by my infrared camera posted
on ten acres of ancient cedar trees in the Pacific Northwest of the United
States. My property is one of the last of its size in a formerly rural area now
stripped, developed, and overpopulated. While images of deer, coyotes, and raccoons
are common, I have this year been surprised by images of both a black bear and
a cougar, no doubt driven from their natural habitat by our ceaseless
destruction of our environment. They are apex predators doomed to starve and perish.
