This project maps the places that are “the stronghold”
of the New Faith, which is how I called cross-shaped lamp posts sprouting all
over the city with surveillance cameras on them.
The idea was to raise awareness that they just
appeared all over the place without the public being informed about it, so who
puts them up and why is still a mystery. In that way people’s privacy has
almost been abolished, which is one of the most serious ways of limiting human
rights and freedoms nowadays.
Jesus Christ is the symbol of one of the world’s most
widespread religions, and there are his various representations in the history
of art, emphasizing the main tenets of faith, equality, freedom and justice. He
is the symbol of the innocent’s sacrifice for spreading his faith which will provide
decent life for people and make them immortal.
That is why I chose for people to once again face the
crucifixion of Jesus, thus wanting to point out the importance of his sacrifice
for a decent life for us.
From my artistic perspective, human freedoms
nowadays are in service of political interests, where a huge force that stops
at nothing is used by the ones who want to stay in power and those who want to
seize power. In that demonic fight, people, aware of it or not, always end up
crucified.
