My sculpture New
Beginnings is just a simple symbol of hope and life. From a cut tree trunk
emerges a mini tree. It is proportionate like a real big tree, but of the size
of a small bonsai tree. This scale effect shows that, no matter what
constraints and catastrophies we pass through, nature finds always a way or
another to survive. Life is the final winner always, which is a quite
encouraging statement!
This art piece is a ceramic, but the bronze colour enamel gives it a perfect
bronze effect, which is a bit startling as the subject is botanic, and not
mineral. This scale and colour effects emphasize the strangeness of survival in
some species by transformation or mutation. This proposed transformation of a
dead tree trunk into a desk for a miniature new tree is clearly impossible, but
it curiously pleases very much a human mind.
I now just wonder what mutations humans will have to pass through in order to
assure the survival of our species, in the context of today's times of lethal
human power upon nature... Will we just disappear or transform into something
new, more modest, intelligent and adaptable species? Living in harmony with
nature is the only answer... hopefully before we have to undergo any major
changes.
