This work is part of a serie about the metamorphosis
Movement is everywhere. Transformation is part of the laws of nature and the human being cannot escape it. From the first metamorphosis, which each human experiences during his conception, to the ultimate journey, the spiritual being undertakes a complete transformation towards the best version of himself. The whole life is just a slow transformation, an irremediable movement towards the end that we all know.
Here, the metamorphosis takes on a meaning of identity, and becomes strongly political. During the colonization of Africa, the European invaders, hided under the benevolent veil of civilization, forced the local populations to undergo a metamorphosis of their nature. Exit voodoo deemed evil, so-called retrograde traditions and strange foreign languages: to survive, one had to submit and transform. Today, it is a reappropriation of identity, a return to spiritual sources that the artist suggests through his works. To get rid of the alienating metamorphosis to transform again, according to our own destiny, this time.
