This art installation shows objects that act as a bridge between time and space, when seen in the context of migration, urbanization and the production of a global economy.
My biggest fear is that abject materialism with empty us of our foundations. To preserve the
same, I always wanted to look at my own land’s history and culture as explored by historians,archaeologists, artists and other discerning local practitioners.
I must acknowledge that my ancestors had built many creative objects. The Spindle for
example is a simple yet meaningful object of creativity and provides ample inspirations to
those at the cusp of new age of technology and material profit.
The male and female spindle denotes how we understand the fabric of life. Hundred spindles used here depicts the rainbow colours, an auspicious sign. Along with the creative aspect, the yarn used in this installation is also a reflection of the culture of Ladakh where wool
symbolizes the lifeline of the people who live in this harsh climatic conditions.
Therefore, this installation shows the material culture of Ladakh during these times of
