**Artist Statement**
In my latest work, I explore the deep symbolism of the Minotaur, representing the primal forces within the human psyche. This piece portrays the Minotaur not as a specific gender or form, but as a primal being, constantly struggling and submitting. It clings to the rocks of the sea, symbolizing its connection to the source of its survival—the sacrifices once made to satisfy its hunger.
The choice of medium adds to the story. By using direct carving, I aimed to capture the raw, visceral essence of the Minotaur's existence. Each mark and chisel stroke reflects the effort to bring this ancient myth to life. The ultramarine pigment, mixed with egg tempera, draws on pre-Athenian artistic traditions, giving the piece a timeless feel and honoring the mythological roots that still resonate with us today.
In this depiction, the Minotaur becomes a universal symbol of the beast within—an unstoppable force that, though never defeated, serves as a reminder of the complexity of human nature. This work invites viewers to reflect on their own inner struggles and how ancient myths continue to reflect the depths of our own existence.
