Arranging a floral curtain, which can be regarded as a contemporary still life. The attempt to explore the connection to the ancient in contemporary art. Strawling through Italian gardens, finding an idyll, which is not located in a specific place and can hence be found everywhere. JARDIN PERDU was created during the Artist in Residence stay, funded by the Region of Upper Austria, in Paliano near Rome.
During my artist in residency stay in Paliano located in the South of Rome, I was astonished by the wild meadows - poppy, wild lentil, wild roses flourished abundantly in May. Then I went further down South, passed Napoli, and discovered a 2000 years old wall painting depicting a garden in the ruins of Pompeii. More than ever I realized that plants have inspired aesthetics throughout history. In reference to the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, which still can´t be located, i created JARDIN PERDU, in an old stable. Even if plants are the protagonists of this site specific installation, their narratives reach beyond the botanical and tell the story of a place and his cultivation. It is the magic of the ephemeral that Ithat catches my attention in botany.
