When I was a young girl my mother would say before she left the house “I need to put my face on” before doing her makeup. I remember thinking how crazy that sounded & imagined an invisible head that only became visible little by little with each bit of make up applied.
with this sculpture I’ve tried to recreate this thought by using bronze to create a liquid gold effect dripping over an invisible face. I have enlarged the proportions to highlight the contours & to encourage looking at the human face with fresh eyes.
Im also asking the viewer to question why women feel not as seen or beautiful with out makeup.
